TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) is a non-lethal, three-step method to reduce the number of feral and stray cats in your neighborhood. Feral cats are Trapped, receive medical attention including Neuter (or spay) and vaccines, are microchipped, and then safely Returned to their colony location to be cared for the the colony caretaker. TNR cats live healthier lives than unvetted cats, and fewer kittens face the harsh reality of life and death on the streets.
This workshop combines Level 1 and Level 2 proficiency sets for working in TNR and is intended for volunteer applicants with Urban Cat Coalition or Citizens United For Animals.
Level 1
12:00pm-2:30pm
The introductory level covers BASIC TNR best practices needed for backyard strays, and single backyard ferals. Tutorials are provided on the use of TruCatch traps, basic holding strategies, basic recovery protocols, and essential administrative procedures. Level 1 is offered as the first half of the workshop and lasts approximately 2.5 hours. If you are interested in volunteering with Urban Cat Coalition (UCC) as a feral cat trapper, Level 1 of this workshop is a mandatory first step to their process. At the end of the Level 1 part of this workshop you will be proficient in BASIC TNR procedures, BASIC HOLDING strategies, and BASIC RECOVERY protocol.
Level 2
2:30pm – 5:00pm
This advanced level workshop covers situations that exceed basic TNR procedures. The reality in working with feral and stray cats, is that often rescuers interact with injured cats, pregnant queens, or lactating queens with litters. These situations require increased knowledge and higher level skills to safely manage the well-being of all involved. In this portion of the workshop you will learn advanced trapping tactics; you will be exposed to advanced holding and recovery set-ups; and you will be taught skills for safely interacting with feral queens and their litters. This clinic is designed for those who have already participated in TNR Level 1. Level 1 is required for participation. This portion of the workshop lasts approximately 2.5 hours.
Space is limited, so pre-registration is mandatory, please.
